General information

Starting from the Emosson dam (1965m) in neighboring Switzerland, the Perrons traverse is a magnificent ridge climb set in a wild environment. It stretches between the Aiguille du Vent (2578m) and the Pointe de l'Ifala (2651m), passing over the summit of the Grand Perron (2673m) and the Pointe Vouilloz (2670m). This route offers a stunning journey above the turquoise waters of Lake Emosson, with breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif and the mineral mountains of Haut-Giffre. The Perrons traverse combines scrambling with a few short pitches (up to French grade 4) on excellent rock, downclimbing, airy traverses, and numerous abseils. This climb is all about moving efficiently over moderately technical ground. The mostly off-trail approach and return hikes give this traverse a decidedly sporty character.

The Perrons traverse is not a climb suitable for beginners. It is aimed at climbers who have already completed ridge climbs and who are used to several hours of climbing. It is an excellent preparation for AD alpine routes in the high mountains. If you have no experience, we recommend starting with the west ridge of the Dent de Fenestral, which offers a similar setting.
